BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Police serve and protect people in our community, but an officer in Sunset Beach also helps its reptile residents.

A resident called the Sunset Beach Police Department to alert them of a snake in distress at the town’s park, according a Facebook post.

He safely untangled the three-foot-long corn snake from fishing line, then released it unharmed in the woods nearby.

“We are fortunate to have officers who are compassionate not just to their fellow man, but to our furry and ‘slithery’ friends as well,” the Facebook post states.
