RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina lawmakers have returned to Raleigh briefly, with legislative Republicans and Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper locked in the same budget impasse from when they last met in the fall.

The legislature gaveled in Tuesday for what’s expected to be a one-day session with no indication that Senate Republicans have won over at least one Democratic colleague needed to override Cooper’s veto of the two-year state budget.

Legislative Republicans, Cooper and his allies have been engaged for months in trading accusations over why no budget agreement has been reached, accusing each other of failing to negotiate in good faith.
