BOLVIA, NC (WWAY)–Birthdays are meant to be celebrated with friends and family, but covid-19 has made that difficult. One Bolivia woman’s family wouldn’t let her big day go unnoticed.
Helen Ford celebrated her 102nd birthday in style on Monday. Her friends put together a parade throughout her neighborhood to honor her from afar. They said this was too big of number to not have a celebration.
“Her mother was turning 102 on June 1st and we had the thought wouldn’t it be fun to honor her,”says neighbor Maragaret Kidder. “None of us know anybody 102 years old and we thought wouldn’t it be fun to have a parade and go by and give her our best wishes.”
Generally Helen’s family comes from all across the nation to celebrate her big day, but with the current circumstances that was was not possible. Her daughter thanked everyone in the community for stepping in.
“It was just wonderful, my book club kind of organized it first,”said Helen’s daughter Cindy Sylvester. “It was wonderful to see everybody helping to share it cause the family couldn’t come down. “
As for Helen she was blown away by the support and surprised beyond belief.
“It was just amazing to me,”says Ford. “I think it’s wonderful when all you people get together and do this. It’s just fantastic.”
Her neighbors say at 102 she deserves all the recognition on her birthday.
“Absolutely this is something that has to be marked, it’s a milestone,”says Carol Gryson.
