WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW has revised its academic calendar for the fall, Chancellor Zito Sartarelli announced in an email to the campus.
“There is not a single element of what we do at UNCW – academics, student support and housing, business services, culture, living and learning spaces, or athletics – that hasn’t been profoundly affected by COVID-19 impacts,” Chancellor Sartarelli wrote. “We also know that none of us can guarantee what shape COVID-19 will take, and none of us can guarantee a COVID-free environment.”
The planned start date of the academic year, August 10, and the first day of classes, August 19, will remain the same.
One big change is the cancellation of fall break so classes can finish before Thanksgiving. Final exams will take place online only between November 30 and December 5.
For classes than cannot occur online, faculty will make plans for instruction and in-person exams to take place before Thanksgiving.
In the coming weeks, UNCW will be sharing specifics regarding the return to campus. Resident students will receive more information in the coming weeks regarding special precautions that will be taken in residence halls.
Students who are considered at-risk will be placed in single occupancy bedrooms.
Commencement will be held on August 7 and 8, with a potential backup date in December.
