WINNABOW, NC (WWAY)–Heavy rain pounded the Cape Fear on Friday with some areas seeing nearly seven inches of precipitation in 24 hours. The large amount in a short period of time caused select roads in southeastern Brunswick County to be impassable to drivers with water flowing across.
Low lying areas near Winnabow saw water from nearby rivers and creeks over flow, covering the road completely in some spots. Around 4:00 p.m. the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office closed down North Carolina Highway 133 in both directions.
The road remains closed to traffic as of 11:30 p.m. on Friday night. You can check the North Carolina Department of Transportation website for the latest road conditions.
