WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In this era of social distancing, drive-by parades have been the best way to celebrate milestones from birthdays to graduation.
Local church members honked their horns through one neighborhood Saturday as a couple celebrated a big day.
Frances and Willie Rich celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Their daughter, Francine Rich, organized the parade of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church members, family and friends.
Dozens of cars drove by their decorated home, waving and cheering on the happy couple.
“They’ve been through a lot — a lot of loss,” Francine said. “I’ve lost siblings. We’ve moved. They’ve seen illness and they’re still here and they enjoy each other. They like each other. They crack jokes with one another. They have fun so being able to still be friends I think is awesome. ”
Frances says they’ve been together since they were 18 years old. She says they are a month apart.
“My parents are amazing,” Francine said. “They do so much for so many people and 60 years is a huge milestone. I had to do something. Of course, we wanted the big major party with family, but we had to celebrate.”
“I love what she did, but the best part of the whole anniversary is being here to see it,” Willie said.
