BOE requests federal help in racism investigation at Pender High

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Board of Education has contacted the federal Office for Civil Rights to request its assistance in looking into allegations of racism at Pender High School.

The move comes in response to alleged racial slurs used by Pender County school staff.

This will be in addition to, but independent of, the investigation by Blue LLC.

Pender County BOE Chairman Don Hall released a statement saying, “our purpose is to continue to show transparency in this process and to ensure that all parties are treated fairly and that they take these allegations seriously and are committed to ensuring that they are thoroughly investigated and resolved.”

The Pender County NAACP is expected to be at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
