SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Two people on paddle boards were rescued over the weekend on Topsail Island after they reportedly got pushed out to sea during a storm Sunday.

Sandi Monroe took photos and videos of the incident Sunday near 316 North Shore Drive.

Monroe said she saw two paddle boarders near the Surf City pier and a storm blew them way out to sea. She said both paddle boarders were blown off their boards repeatedly by the strong winds. She said visibility was terrible when the rain poured down. Monroe also said winds were blowing so hard away from shore that they could not paddle back in.

Monroe said she called 911 along with other people on the beach. She said that is when a local surfer and another paddle boarder went out to help the two people with Surf City Fire Department.

Monroe said the two people on paddle boards who were rescued were exhausted, but they are okay.

Fire Chief Allen Wilson says no injuries were reported.
