NAVASSA, NC (WWAY)–There will be changes coming to the Navassa Police Department in the coming weeks. On Tuesday, a vote by town passed in favor of limiting the use of patrol cars when off duty.
In a 4-1 vote, the town passed a ruling that officers may no longer take their patrol cars home when they are off-duty. The town says the added value of the officers taking home their department vehicles was not as high as they would like it to be. So, they decided a change was needed.
The officers will now be required to leave their patrol cars at the station and pick them up when they are schedule to come on duty. The new Navassa Police procedure will go into effect on July 7th.
