MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WCTI) — Gun sales are up across the country, including in eastern North Carolina.
Nick McFerran owns Nick’s Guns and Gear in Morehead City and says many factors are responsible for the rise, including the coronavirus pandemic and recent protests. Overall, he says he believes fear is the reason his sales are six times higher than they were last year.
“People first are concerned with the virus first, and now with all protestors, and all these things that are happening on the news, I see fear in people’s eyes,” he explained. “And, I think we have a lot of people who are buying guns who have never bought guns before, a lot of people coming in and asking about the process – even ministers, the elderly 70 to 80 years old, and I hate to see that.”
To purchase a firearm in North Carolina, people must pass a background check and have a permit.
