North Carolina town hangs banners to honor service members

The Town of Cape Carteret is honoring service members in a unique way for the second year in a row. Town officials are hanging banners that showcase a service member on light and utility poles throughout the town.

Town Manager Zachary Steffey said his goal is for every pole in the town to have a banner hanging from it.

The banner can be of anyone actively serving in the military or who formerly served, and people do not have to live in Cape Carteret to participate.

“If people from the surrounding areas are interested in participating, they can definitely do so,” Steffey said. “We would hang the banner in Cape Carteret because our public works department is the one putting it up.”

The fee is $130, and those who participate would receive a second banner for their home. Officials said the banner should stay up until Veterans Day.
