WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) — Stand-still traffic on Randall Parkway and South College Road early Saturday morning, as cars waited to pick up their hurricane preparedness buckets.
New Hanover County Disaster Coalition Executive Director Audrey Hart says residents were lined up at 6:30 a-m.
Harbor United Methodist Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were the two pick up locations Saturday morning.
Hart says the coalition was prepared to give away 250 buckets at each site.
She says the buckets include cleaning supplies, insect repellent, flash lights, first aid and hygiene kits and safety resource information.
“Last year, we had the event at the MLK center and it was a big gym and people got to walk around to each vendor and get the information,” Hart said. “But, this year, we couldn’t mass gather, so we revamped that plan to still be able to hand out preparedness materials. ”
Hart says families should prepare differently this year by adding extra masks and hand sanitizer to their kit and being diligent about evacuating since shelters will be handled differently to follow coronavirus safety guidelines.
