COVID-19: Parents, students try to plan for college uncertainties

College students are weeks away from the start of classes, and they (and their parents) are wondering what school will look like.

Health fears caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and financial concerns are also in the mix.

Joyce Hunter and her daughter Maya are among those navigating the uncertainties of the upcoming school year.

“First semester freshmen year, I was, like, having fun, meeting new people,” Maya, a biology major at Eastern Carolina University, said.

The sophomore is lucky she took care of initial labs last semester. So, all her course work will be online, virtual.

Some students just can’t handle that.
