WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival events that were rescheduled for the fall due to COVID-19 will not happen as planned.
The North Carolina Azalea Festival shared an update on Wednesday, saying “the attendance restrictions on public gatherings does not make it feasible for us to host live events to the quality and scale our guests expect.”
“This is a heartbreaking announcement for our team,” the festival wrote in a release. “Hundreds of volunteers have already put in countless hours of planning, thousands of music lovers were ready to sing along with one of North Carolina’s favorite bands, and hundreds of children were ready to march down a Parade route or showcase their talents on one of our stages for the first time.”
Each year, Azalea Festival events bring in more than $50 million economic stimulus to our region.
The festival says they have re-booked three main stage acts for the 74th North Carolina Azalea Festival to take place in April 2021.
Acts and showtimes include:
Sublime with Rome and Michael Franti & Spearhead – Friday, April 9, 2021
The Avett Brothers – Saturday, April 10, 2021.
Tickets already purchased for these shows will automatically be valid for the new dates.
Ticket holders do not need to do anything to their tickets, but show up with them in hand in April.
All festival sponsorships, patron packages, street fair vendor and parade registrations, and tickets to other festival events (such as the Airlie Luncheon Garden Party) will also be rolled over to the 2021 Azalea Festival.
