WEST HAVEN, CT (AP) — Two workers have been killed in an explosion while repairing a steam pipe in a maintenance building at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Connecticut.
The director of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System said Friday that the men were in the basement and had just finished routine maintenance on a leaky pipe.
Director Al Montoya Jr. says the explosion occurred as the pipe was being refilled with steam. Montoy says one victim was a contractor and the other was a VA employee and Navy veteran.
Officials say three other workers were injured. Officials initially believed one was missing, but all are accounted for.
