According to the DA’s office, Crews broke into the victim’s apartment at University Place Apartments on MacMillan Avenue in November 2018 by cutting the screen and opening a window.

Crews climbed through the window and showed a knife to the woman so he could rape her.

Crews’ arrest came after DNA evidence from a 2018 crime scene was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and linked him to the rape.

Crews was also charged with breaking and entering numerous vehicles and stealing property within some of the vehicles. He entered pleas of guilty to all of these charges as well.

Judge Phyllis M. Gorham sentenced Crews to a minimum of 28 years, 8 months, and a  maximum of 39 years, 5 months in prison. Following his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
