WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Lenny Simpson, former tennis pro and founder of One Love Tennis in Wilmington, is recovering after suffering a stroke a few weeks ago.

One Love Communications Director Mark Sinclair says Simpson is alert, responsive, and able to walk. However, speech is difficult and frustrating. He has moved to the Rehabilitation Department to begin therapy.

“This is a good sign and another step towards recovery,” Sinclair wrote in a release on Thursday.

He says Simpson’s family is by his side constantly and reminding him of his family motto: “Simpson’s don’t quit.”

“Your prayers and best wishes are appreciated beyond measure and it is keeping Lenny’s spirits high,” Sinclair wrote. “We are asking for continued prayers for Lenny and his family.”

Simpson, 72, is a member of multiple tennis Halls of Fame.
