Emily Andrews joined WWAY in February of 2023. Emily is a multimedia journalist who you probably see mostly on the weekends, as she is WWAY’s weekend reporter.
Emily is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and is graduating in the coming months. She is majoring in communication studies and minoring in journalism.
Emily is from Whiteville, North Carolina but knows Wilmington well, as it is only an hour away from her hometown. Her family is very important to her, which is why she stays close to home despite having the love for travelling.
In summer of 2022, Emily studied abroad in Kraków, Poland where she assisted in conducting a research study. The study focused on the benefit of college students going abroad to understand another’s culture. While in Europe, she also stayed in London. She is always on the look-out for another adventure. The same summer, Emily interned at WWAY where she learned what it takes to be a broadcast journalist. Emily ultimately decided that sharing people’s stories was her passion. She also has prior experience in print journalism, as she did freelance work for her hometown’s newspaper, The News Reporter, over the past few years.
In Emily’s free time, she enjoys going to the beach. She knows Ocean Isle Beach like the back of her hand. She also loves watching her boyfriend, Evan, perform on the weekend in his two bands. The two of them have a Dalmatian puppy named Huey after Huey Lewis & the News. This name was inspired by her and Evan’s love for 80’s music. Emily often says she believes she was born in the wrong era. Outside of work Emily can be seen on the dance floor getting down to either a song by Lionel Richie or a tune by The Gap Band!
