Teacher Of The Week

Teacher of the Week: Destiney Watt

Destiney Watt is a very popular teacher at Shallotte Middle School and is inspiring her students to love science with a blend of humor and enthusiasm.

Teacher of the Week: Karen Braxton

Karen Braxton has been hailed as a survivor, leader, fighter, teacher and hero.  As a teacher at Cape Fear Middle School, however she says she is none of those things.

Teacher of the Week: Trina Jones

As a relatively new teacher at Shallotte Middle School Trina Jones was surprised to find out she won was the first Teacher of the Week of 2018.  Winning, she says, makes her feel like "the kids must really hear what I'm saying and know I love them."

Teacher of the Week: Robert Parker

Robert Parker is humble about being named the WWAY Michael and Son Teacher of the Week saying the award is moreso for his students.  When it comes to talking about those students is when he gets the most excited.

Teacher of the Week: Cat Thomas

The fun never ends in the drama class of Cat Thomas at North Brunswick High School.

Teacher of the Week: Austin Adams

Mr. Adams is a teacher at Forest Hills Global Elementary School in Wilmington and his son is not his only fan. Multiple nominations called him trustworthy and a good role model, but he feels "just happy to be a teacher."

Teacher of the Week: Megan Starnes

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Megan Starnes got the call to teach a third grade class at Parsley Elementary School two days before...

Teacher of the Week: Kate Diehl

Kate Diehl is a one-of-a-kind teacher who urges her students to be global citizens, stand up for social injustices, be themselves, and she still has time to be a fan (and quote) the rapper Tupac Shakur. "The advice I hope to leave all my students," she says, "is from the great Tupac who said 'be the rose that grew from concrete when no one else cared.'"

Teacher of the Week: Jake Wentzek

From band, jazz band and chorus to symphonic, concert and marching band, Jake Wentzek does it all at Topsail High School.
