English-only commissioners get no NC satisfaction
WASHINGTON, N.C. — Officials in a North Carolina county demanding an English-only policy for state-government Web sites have been rebuffed by Gov. Beverly Perdue.
The Washington Daily News reported Tuesday that the Beaufort (BOW-fort) County commissioners got a response from Perdue six months after asking the governor to remove Spanish from state-government Web sites or explain why she wouldn’t.
Perdue says the health and safety information on state Web sites is needed by everyone, and communities benefit when residents are able to understand and follow instructions.
County Commissioner Stan Deatherage says he and three other commissioners were expressing concern over illegal immigration.
