U. S. Open King Mackerel Tournament
An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until October 5, 2019
The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament began over 40 years ago, when a small group of community leaders met and decided that they needed an event to showcase the great fall fishing in the Southport-Oak Island area. Today, the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament attracts 400+ boats annually and is one of the largest kingfish tournaments on the east coast. The tournament has a guaranteed prize structure and in 2018, paid out over $280,000 in cash with 432 boats fishing the tournament. Captain Dieter Cardwell and the crew of Tideline took home over $108,000 for their 37.20 pound king. Entry Fee Charged. Music, food and beverages. Public Welcome. An event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Southport Marina, Garmin and BEMC.
