Forum on sea level rise planned in NC capital city

RALEIGH, N.C. — Coastal experts in North Carolina want to know how much the sea along the shoreline is rising.

They will hold a Science Forum on Sea Level Rise in North Carolina on Thursday at the Hilton North Raleigh. The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will use the forum as the basis for its
preliminary report on the current and projected rates of sea level rise in North Carolina.

The report will go in 25-year increments through 2100.

The commission and other agencies within the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources will use figures for policy development.

Among the scheduled speakers is Virginia Burkett, chief scientist for global change research at the U.S. Geological Survey.
