NC’s first-term auditor behind on property taxes
RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s top financial watchdog has fallen behind on paying the property taxes she owes on her Raleigh home.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday state auditor Beth Wood owes Wake County about $1,200. The tax bill was due in September and started accruing interest last month.
The Democrat is a certified public accountant who took office last year. Wood says she borrowed $90,000 to pump into her campaign, and she’s like other average people trying to juggle debts.
Wood makes $123,000 a year as state auditor. She says her personal finances are irrelevant to her work in state government.
