NC city needs volunteers for homeless count

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Organizers in one North Carolina city say they still need about 20 people to help in the annual count of the homeless.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that the extra help is needed in Guilford County for Wednesday’s annual “Point-in-Time Count” of the homeless. The volunteers will look for homeless people living in tents, on street corners and in wooded areas.

Kathy Vohs of AmeriCorps says a final training session is scheduled Tuesday for anyone interested in helping with the Greensboro survey. Last year’s count found more than 1,000 homeless people in Guilford County. The year before, there were almost 1,000.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires the count for funding for programs.
