NC congressional candidate reports gun threat

DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina congressional candidate says he was threatened with assassination by a man who asked about his political platform.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Warren County contractor Chad Larkins told police the man threatened him as he visited a Durham barber shop Friday.

Larkins is a Democrat challenging incumbent Democrat G.K. Butterfield in the 1st Congressional District.

Larkins said he was visiting the barber shop to collect coats for Warren County seniors when he was approached by a man asking about his political views.

Larkins said the man said he had been waiting in the “grassy knoll” and was going to emulate Lee Harvey Oswald’s assassination of President Kennedy.

Larkins reported the threat to Durham police but they offered no description of a suspect.
