NC order lets local businesses match bid prices

RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Beverly Perdue says North Carolina businesses should get a second chance to land state government contracts.

Perdue signed an executive order on Wednesday giving state businesses the opportunity to match the low-price bid of an out-of-state company for government contracts to purchase goods. The state would award the contract to a qualified North Carolina company if it can match the price.

Perdue says she hopes the order will help save jobs and cultivate growing businesses.

The offer would apply if the North Carolina firm’s bid price is within 5 percent or $10,000 of the lowest bid, whichever is less.

Perdue also named Scott Daugherty to serve as the state’s first “small business commissioner.” He’ll help coordinate small business assistance across state government.
