WWAY’s Tuesday night sports – Dec. 6

video On Tuesday night we showcased highlights from the UNCW-Liberty men's basketball game. The Seahawks extinguished the Flames by nine points in Lynchburg, Virginia. FIRST ON 3: NCAA bans Ashley & Hoggard from playing basketball at Duke

Hoggard and Ashley were both scheduled to play at Cameron Indoor Stadium later this month in a showcase high school basketball event in Durham. The NCAA has stepped in, though. The NCAA has declared the "Clash at Cameron" to be a non-scholastic event.

WWAY’s Wednesday night sports – Nov. 30

video On Wednesday night we showcased highlights and the dramatic finish from the UNCW-Toledo men's basketball game. The Rockets downed the Seahawks by two points when a desperation shot at the buzzer from UNCW missed. We also featured high school basketball action from Ashley. Ashley baseball players sign to play in college

College baseball teams began signing recruits Wednesday. Today at Ashley High School, two Eagles signed to play at the next level. Chance Shepard and Christian Wolfe will both play Division I baseball.

video Laney entered Tuesday night's action sporting a nine game winning streak. Ashley stood in the way of win number ten. Hoggard and New Hanover also tangled in high school soccer on Tuesday.

School board suspends Ashley soccer coach

For the time being Giles Roberts is no longer coaching the boys soccer team at Ashley High School. Roberts was suspended without pay Tuesday night for a month.

Ashley’s Mason Boyles is back on top after suspension; New Hanover’s best female runner competes with the boys

video Ashley senior Mason Boyles hasn't been able to compete on the high school level since the spring of his sophomore year due to a suspension that centered around his residency. He's back in rare form along with New Hanover distance runner Shelby Howell. She's not running against the girls. Howell is competing against the boys instead.

Mid season report on Mideastern Conference

video Two years ago Laney didn't win a varsity football game. This year the Buccaneers sport the best record in the Mideastern 4-A conference at 5-0. Hoggard is 4-0 this season after a down year in 2010. New Hanover and Ashley may end up with better record than last year as well.
