The Sharks fall at home to open the season. It's the official start of the summer Coastal Plain League in Wilmington.
The boys of summer return to Wilmington in a couple of the weeks, and the Wilmington Sharks want to get you in on the fun a little early.
After a four game streak to start the second half, Wilmington (11-21) has lost three in a row. Morehead City (23-8) took advantage of two Sharks errors on the way to a 3-1 victory.
For the third night in a row, a Sharks pitcher lasted seven innings and for the second consecutive night did not allow a run. Wilmington (10-18) shut out Morehead City (20-7) in a 1-0 victory.
Through the first five innings, Fayetteville (11-11) opened up a 7-3 advantage over the Sharks. Wilmington (7-15) battled back to knot the game up at eight before the visitors went on to win 11-8.
For the second time this week, Wilmington (6-12) was not only out hit, but also shut down by Holly Springs (7-13). In two games this week, the Salamanders have scored 19 runs on 30 hits against the Sharks. Meanwhile, Wilmington has mustered just three runs on 10 hits.
The first four innings for Wilmington (6-11) looked like it would be another one of those nights for the Sharks. Fayetteville (7-9) scored a run in each of the first four innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead, but that's when things changed.
Tonight's contest between the Tobs and the Sharks has been cancelled due to rain in Wilmington. The contest does not have a make up date as the two teams will not meet again in the first half of the summer.
For the third game in a row Wilmington (5-6) struggled at the plate, this time against Fayetteville (4-5). The Sharks went just 3-21 with two runs batted in where there was a runner on base in the 7-2 loss to the SwampDogs.
