Tonight's game between Sharks and Marlins in Morehead City has been postponed due to rain.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Wilmington (1-0) let the Morehead City Marlins (0-1) right back into the contest with mistakes in the top half of the eight. The visitors used two Shark errors and a balk to tie the game at two. In the next half inning, Wilmington made the Marlins pay and held on for 3-2 Opening Day victory.

Three members of the Cal State Bakersfield pitching staff are headed to Wilmington for the 2018 summer. Davonte Butler, Elijah Parks and Jordan Ragan join two local guys, Sam Luchansky and Caleb Bishop on the staff.

The Coastal Plain League is excited to announce the 2017 All-CPL First and Second teams. Each team features 24 players: one player per each infield position, four designated hitter/utility players, five outfielders, six starting pitchers and four relief pitchers.
After a historic season for the Wilmington Sharks, their season comes to an end as the Gastonia Grizzlies win the Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup.
