video The Whiteville baseball players are trying to be patient. There's now light at the end of the tunnel. The state champion Whiteville baseball team will receive their state championship rings on Friday night. Plus more!

Spivey takes over baseball program at South Columbus

T.J. Spivey is back in Columbus County after one year of coaching at North Myrtle Beach High School. The former South Columbus Stallion was named the head baseball coach at South Columbus High School on Monday.

Livengood named Laney head baseball coach

UNCW graduate Aaron Livengood has been named the head baseball coach at Laney High School. Livengood replaces veteran coach Vern Barker who recently announced his retirement.

Whiteville wins 2-A state title

Whiteville High School won the 2-A baseball state championship series on Saturday over Randleman High School. It's the fifth state title in baseball for the Whiteville Wolfpack.

WWAY’s Thursday night sports – May 31

video On Thursday we checked in one more time with the UNCW & Whiteville baseball teams. They'll both be back on the field on Friday chasing championships. On Thursday we attended two different national letter of intent signings in the Wilmington area. Plus, we made a trip to the Shark Tank to check out Wilmington's summer league baseball team.

WWAY’s Friday night sports – May 25; Whiteville wins 2A East & UNCW moves into CAA title game

video Whiteville High School earned a spot in next week's 2A baseball state championship best of three series. The Wolfpack won the eastern title on Friday night on the road against Northwood High School. The UNCW baseball team also won on Friday. The Seahawks edged Delaware 3-2 to advance to the CAA Baseball Championship on Saturday.

WWAY’S Thursday night sports – May 24: Whiteville & UNCW baseball both roll

video The Whiteville baseball team is just one win away from playing in next week's 2-A state championship series. Whiteville only needs one more victory against Northwood to advance. The UNCW baseball team wants to advance to the NCAA Baseball Tournament. To insure that the Hawks need to win the CAA Tournament. On Thursday the Seahawks beat VCU to start the CAA event off on the right foot. UNCW's next game will be Friday at noon against Delaware.

WWAY Friday night sports – May 4

video Friday night’s sports segment featured the UNCW baseball team in their series opener against Towson. We also checked out the Laney softball and baseball teams as they tried to position themselves for the postseason. We highlighted more high school baseball action from New Hanover and Hoggard. We also featured high school lacrosse playoff games between the Ashley and Laney girls, as well as the Hoggard boys.
