Wreath laying marks National Maritime Day

Memorial Day is right around the corner, but today is National Maritime Day. Local leaders met at Riverfront Park in Wilmington to celebrate the merchant mariners who have given their service and sometimes their lives for our country.

State Ports Authority honors Merchant Mariners

Ceremony honors Merchant Marines

The event was part of National Maritime Day, which was established in 1933. It recognizes the role the US Merchant Marines play in ensuring national security. It is also a chance to remember those Merchant Marines who lost their life during World War II.
