Former Leland police officers stripped of certification

video A North Carolina Department of Justice spokeswoman says five former Leland police officers are no longer sworn law enforcement officers. Former Deputy Chief Karl Smith, Lt. Bill Kozak, Lt. Rick Dellapia, Ofc. Michael Landen and Ofc. John Blasingame all either quit or were fired last spring as the SBI investigated allegations of problems within the Leland Police Department.

Leland Police correct training issues

The Leland Police Department has fixed problems regulators found with its training and records. The police department released a letter today sent by North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Standards Division. The letter dated February 20 thanks the Leland Police Department for "correcting the deficiencies identified in the Field Audit Results report dated November 01, 2011."

State review found deficiencies in Leland PD training; LPD says most corrected

A state review found dozens of training deficiencies within the Leland Police Department. The review conducted in September found 89 deficiencies in all, but Leland Police Chief Tim Jayne says most have been corrected.

video Two days after Officer Sherry Lewis was shot, Chief Tim Jayne came in and fraudulently signed the attendance roster. Chief Jayne drove down to Fort Fisher for lunch. He did not attend the training course. Tim Jayne’s name is the last name on the roster. Lieutenant Rick Dellapia and Lieutenant Bill Kozak told me to contact Training and Standards. If Tim Jayne does not obtain all of his required training hours he would lose his law enforcement license and would have to go back through basic law enforcement training.
