Brunswick Co. opens shelter due to flooding

Brunswick County opened a shelter at West Brunswick High School Friday night after significant flooding in the southwestern part of the county. The shelter will allow pets.

BHI FERRY UPDATE: Ship ran aground, 13 passengers hurt

video A Bald Head Island ferry ran aground near Battery Island this morning, throwing passengers around the boat. The Coast Guard says 53 people were aboard the 64-foot Adventure around 9 a.m. heading from Southport to Bald Head Island. One passenger was flown to the hospital. Twelve others were taken to regional hospitals.

video While WWAY's Holden Kurwick was getting video of a rare sea turtle nest at Fort Fisher State Park this morning, lifeguards had to spring into action.

UPDATE: Tourist drowns while helping rescue other swimmers

video Kevin Scott Roberts, 43, of Mt. Lookout, WV, drowned Monday after being caught by a strong current off Bald Head Island. Roberts was among five people that tried to save three swimmers that were struggling off the east end.
