RALEIGH — North Carolina taxpayers will have to wait longer again this year to get income tax refunds.
Revenue Secretary Kenneth Lay said Friday his agency is delaying refund checks for individuals and businesses to manage cash while tax collections remain anemic.
At this time of year, it usually takes two to six weeks for a return with no errors or problems to be processed, and a refund approved.
There’s no timeline on the delays right now, Lay says, but everyone ultimately will receive his or her refund.
The same thing happened last year, but Lay acknowledged his agency wasn’t as prepared then. The department had been up to date on handing out refunds until now.
