HEAVY CONGESTION POSSIBLE IN WEST RALEIGH DUE TO STATE FAIR

Motorists should expect heavy congestion on roads in the west Raleigh area due to the State Fair traffic through Sunday, October 21.

Roads expected to be affected include: I-40 and I-440 approaching Wade Avenue, Blue Ridge Road, Edwards Mill Road, Trinity Road, Wade Avenue, NC-54, Hillsborough Street in the vicinity of the fairgrounds.
Congestion on these roadways is expected to be at their highest during the evening when special events at the fair draw larger crowds and on weekends.

Motorist not attending the event are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes away from the fairgrounds if possible. Those attending the fair are advised to carpool, drive with caution, and obey all signs and law enforcement officers.

Due to flooding the road is washed out, all lanes of US-421 South Bound and North Bound are closed near the Pender/New Hanover County line.  Motorists are asked to remain alert while driving through the area.

SR 1403 (Middle Sound Loop) road closed between Clemmons Way and Anchors Bend Way after Hurricane Florence. The opening date is undetermined at this time

Road closed with Detour.  Motorist who travel on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge (US 17/76/421) over the Northeast Cape Fear River in New Hanover County need to be aware of scheduled bridge closures.  The North Carolina Department of Transportation will have nightly road closures in both directions on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge to perform paving, building, electrical and mechanical work. Beginning September 10, 2018 thru April 17, 2019.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will have lane closures for traffic in both directions on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge to perform paving, electrical, mechanical and building construction.  Beginning Monday, September 10, 2018 through April 17 2019.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is installing Communications Cable and Conduit on I-140 in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties. Lane closures nightly 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize traffic delays.
