Brunswick County Sheriff's Office still under investigation

BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- It's been four months since the US Attorney's Office handed down subpoenas to some deputies at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. The grand jury is meeting again this week, but unlike the last three months, no deputies from the sheriff's office will be testifying. Sources say the investigation will be wrapping up soon. The US Attorney's Office would not confirm that. The exact cause of the investigation has not yet been revealed.

I have been reading post after post about the so called natives. I will be willing to bet my waterfront home that they are not natives. Why are you so worried about what it is about? You will soon see. If the grand jury wanted you to know it would be televised or wrote about.We have been in this county for over 180 years and if you do not believe it is better you are wrong. Remember Herman. Red. Dope gate. No because you were not here. We all can't be everyehere all the time and do what we all want. If someone here writing on this can I will be glad to vote for you and contribute as much money as you need to get elected.Is Ronald perfect nah.If he has made a mistake then we will find out in due time.I have always believed someone is innocent until proven guilty. Well since this is all about opinion...wether or not Sheriff Hewett knows about the investigation if it was intented for the public to know, we would all know by now! and he didnt buy his way into that office for all these years, we all voted him in, and it may be time for a change, but acting as though all his years of dedication to the citizens of Brunswick County, and bad-mouthing his work and the work of his employees, is just plain ignorant.

I do not think there is any way on this earth that he does not know what this investigation is about. You know with the strong hold he has on those deputies down there that as soon as they were done testifying, they were called to his office for a "friendly chat". His wife, son and daughter testified, and they did not tell him? Chief Rodney Gause from Shallotte PD testified and he did not tell him? mmmm makes you wonder what's wrong with those people that they did not share the news with the "good" sheriff. Someone mentioned a Captain at the Sheriff's office wanting the position, was that Captain Holden? Bottom line is the article said they were wrapping up the investigation, mmmm looks like someone will be getting a Christmas Gift all wrapped up tight Im sure.

It will be interesting to see if anyone gets indicted. Either way, it needs to be aired out to the public when completed as to what it is all about. End all of the speculation, rumours and probably even some lies that have been spread around about the Sheriff. I also think that the Sheriff owes the citizens of Brunswick County an explanation. After his family members and some of his deputies have testified for the Grand Jury, he would have to know what the investigation is focusing on. I am really surprised in the media for not digging into this story. It's almost like they are not interested with a wait and see attitude.

Ya know, at the beginning so many people commented on what a good sheriff he is blah, blah, blah. Never has it be told what the real story is about. They still say they don't know. Well, Brunswick county Ronald followers, you tell me, what is going on with him and never has he attempted to explain a thing. He is so concerened about us citizens he can't fess up? Good sheriff........I really trust you now...NOT

You are so right. Just by the questions that have been asked, they all know what the scope of the investigation is, but just not telling the public. It is either wrongdoing on county time or having his deputies do activities that constitute campaigning on county time, both which are violations of law such as what Glenn Maynor in Robeson county just got charged with for having deputies perform work at his home on county payroll time. Whatever it is it needs to be out in the public to end all speculation, but I doubt you will hear it up front. JUST MY OPINION........

maybe the sheriff doesn't know what the scope of the investigation is, but who knows...sheriff hewett is a good man, everyone knows that.... someone in his office had to start this stuff, just for their gain...maybe he needs check a certain captain in his office, cause he is the one that has been courting the democratic party for the sheriff's position...along with john ingram

You have got to be one of the most miss informed people that has commented on this fiasco! 1st, the sheriff knows what this investigation is about. He has known what it was about from the beginning! As sheriff you don't get investigated in your own county by state law enforcement officials and not know why!!! 2nd, it has been obvious to me and most every other sane, voting citizen with more than 1 brain cell functioning that things at the sheriff's office are not what they seem. And if it is a captain in the sheriff's own office then that should be proof enough that the very people he works with don't trust him or respect him as the sheriff or a man. I'm curious how in the world would this show you he is a "good man"? 3rd, if it is for someone elses gain it sure wouldn't be for John Ingrams gain, he has been long gone from that hell hole and from what I hear glad for it! Anyway, what makes you an expert on what he is doing? Who gave you insight into someone elses life and the choices they make? I am so tired of people making excuses for Ronald Hewett. Here's a new one Ronald, how about taking responsibility for your own actions!!!! That too much for you??? Let me make this clear for anyone who has a question John Ingram supports Charlie Miller, always has and always will!!! When the truth comes out and it will everyone will know that neither of them started this! But from what I hear they intend to finish it and I for one certainly hope they do!!!

Boy did you hit the nail on the head. There is no way in *ell that Hewett does not know what is going on. One thing about the Feds, if they start it, they will finish it. I think this county is in for a real wake up call..not just the Sheriff, but departments like Shallotte and a few others that have been having "little problems" I think that by the time the Feds are done that Law Enforcement in this county will have a new, brighter face on it.

By now, the Sheriff must know what the investigation is all about. If he doesn't, he isn't much of an investigator himself.
