RALEIGH -- Bev Perdue is hoping again that "Sheriff Andy Taylor" will take her across the finish line first. The Democratic candidate for governor unveiled a new television ad Monday in which Andy Griffith endorses her for governor. The folksy Griffith, who played Sheriff Taylor in the popular 1960s sitcom, "The Andy Griffith Show," also appeared in a Perdue commercial before the primary. In the ad, Griffith says he likes to whistle on the way to the lake. But he says it's no time for whistling and that it is time for a strong leader such as Perdue. Griffith says that with Perdue's help, "times will get better for whistling again." Griffith appeared in ads for now-outgoing Gov. Mike Easley during his 2000 and 2004 campaigns.
