Wilmington business hit with layoffs

There are more layoffs for another local business. The Terex Crane Company announced layoffs for about 30 workers at their Wilmington location off of Carolina Beach Road. Thursday, the company issued a statement saying, “Due to a continued decrease in the global crane market, the Terex Cranes facility in Wilmington has been forced to make the difficult decision to reduce our workforce in order to better align or resources with market demand and our current production levels. Approximately 29 positions are affected. In recent years, the Wilmington plant has been significantly reorganized to be a highly efficient, lean operation. As a result, we will be well positioned to meet increasing demand for our cranes as the economic situation begins to improve.” Effected workers said they still have hopes of one day getting their jobs back.
