Experts gather in Raleigh to discuss killing bugs

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- This year it's bedbugs. Next year, who knows?

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported about 750 people are at a three-day Pest Control Technician's School to learn how to fight pests. The conference by the North Carolina Pest Management Association allows pest control workers to get annual certification.

Jay Breusch told the technicians Wednesday he loves his job. Breusch says he is part counselor, carpenter, detective and cop. He also likes killing bugs.

Breusch says the industry has changed in his 28 years. He says customers previously didn't think they had killed their bugs unless they could smell chemicals. He says now many customers worry more about the chemicals than the bugs, which means using fewer, safer chemicals to kill pests.
