NEW YORK, NY (AP) -- A North Carolina woman who raised a child snatched from a New York hospital more than two decades ago is set to appear in federal court to face kidnapping charges.
Ann Pettway surrendered Sunday morning in Connecticut on a warrant from North Carolina on a probation violation charge. Pettway was on probation because of a conviction for attempted embezzlement and wasn't allowed to leave the state.
Her surrender comes days after a widely publicized reunion between the child, who's now grown, and her biological mother.
Pettway is expected to appear Monday in federal court in Manhattan to face charges in the 1987 kidnapping of Carlina White.
The 23-year-old White has been living under the name Nejdra Nance in Bridgeport, Conn., and in the Atlanta area.
