BURLINGTON, NC (AP) -- A sophomore running back at the University of North Carolina faces charges of driving while impaired after a police stop.

UNC football spokesman Kevin Best says A.J. Blue told the team about the arrest. Burlington police had pulled over the Gastonia native early Sunday.

Blue also faces charges of violating open container laws. Police say Blue's blood alcohol level at the time was .12 percent. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08 percent.

Blue was released from Alamance County Jail on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 7.

Best says that discipline will be handled internally.
