RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- The stepmother of a 10-year-old girl will keep her same lawyer now that she has been charged with the girl's murder.
District Attorney James Gaither says Elisa Baker appeared for a status hearing on Tuesday to determine her legal counsel.
A Catawba County grand jury on Monday indicted Baker on a charges of second-degree murder. She is being held on more than $300,000 bond from a variety of charges
Scott Reilly, who has been representing Baker, was assigned as her lawyer. A call to Reilly was not immediately returned Wednesday.
Baker is to be arraigned April 4. At an arraignment, a suspect typically enters a plea.
Gaither says the only purpose of Tuesday's hearing was to find Baker an attorney. Earlier, his office mistakenly announced Baker had been arraigned.
