Perdue spending several days in Washington

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Gov. Bev Perdue is starting a five-day trip to Washington with a visit to the White House with other Democratic governors to talk with President Obama about how states can work together on the economy.

Perdue was one of 14 governors scheduled to meet with the president Friday. The governors were expected to meet later with the media.

Perdue will remain in the nation's capital for the National Governors Association winter meetings running Saturday through Monday. Perdue's office says she is one of four chief executives picked to speak with Obama again Monday in a governors-only meeting.

Perdue plans more meetings in Washington on Tuesday, including a visit to the Pentagon.
