RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- House Speaker Thom Tillis has a message for Democrats about Gov. Bev Perdue's vetoes: Watch your backs.
Tillis said Thursday that House Republicans will do what they can to keep vetoed bills alive even when they can't immediately override them. Tillis made the comments after the GOP performed a procedural move on the House floor that gives them the opportunity to reconsider and potentially vote again on canceling Perdue's veto
challenging the federal health care overhaul. Republicans fell four votes short of an override Wednesday.
Tillis didn't rule out a situation where Republican leaders may attempt to get the three-fifths majority needed for an override if Democrats don't show up for a daily session. He said they chose not to Thursday when several Democrats left to tend to personal matters.
