WPD: Three busted for stealing copper from Winter Park Presbyterian

FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM FROM THE WILMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Time: Thursday evening
Location: 4501 Wrightsville Avenue
Offense: Felony larceny and related offenses

Summary: Two plainclothes detectives were on duty in the area when they saw a blue jeep park on Maple Avenue. Two men and a woman got out of the vehicle.

The woman stood on the corner of Maple Avenue and S. Kerr Avenue and acted as a lookout.

The two men went to the side of the church (Winter Park Presbyterian Church) and started loading up copper drainage piping that had been cut from the church buildings.

Detectives stopped the suspects before they drove away. All of the stolen copper was recovered, including some that apparently was taken earlier in the night.

Arrested and charged with felony larceny, trespass / first degree and property damage:

Ronald Dale Pace, d.o.b. 12-30-1956, no fixed address*
John Eric Lewallen, d.o.b. 6-4-1970, no fixed address*
Nancy Clark Carter, d.o.b. 1-12-1959, no fixed address*

Pace and Lewallen are in custody at the New Hanover County detention facility, each under $10,000 secure bond, pending court appearances today. Clark was released on unsecured bond. Booking photos are attached.

* The address of a local shelter is the last known address for all three suspects.
