American Eagle adding flights between ILM and Chicago O'Hare

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Big news at Wilmington International Airport today. The Windy City will soon be just a flight away from the Port City.

American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, is the latest airline joining the fleet at ILM. It will add two daily non-stop flights to Chicago O'Hare beginning July 2.

Chicago is a popular business destination from the Cape Fear. Airport officials say adding to the benefits, O'Hare is a key hub, which will make it easier to reach the rest of the midwest and west coast.

"The bottom line is that it really is a schedule that has good frequency with two flights a day, seven days a week, and number two, it has great scheduling," ILM airport director Jon Rosborough said. "What really piqued the interest of American was Chicago and points beyond."

The new service will operate with 44-seat Embraer jets.

You can book your tickets now. Round trip airfare is about $340.

Unfortunately...

To bad it is on a Embraer 140. This is the slightly smaller version of the Embraer 145 that US Airways Express currently uses to fly into La Guardia from here, which is a roughly 1.5 hour flight. A little over two hours on one of these with the time change, no thanks.

$340 a ticket? No thanks,

$340 a ticket? No thanks, I'll make a stop in ATL or CLT thanks.

New Flights

It's about time that the Airport administration solicited some competitors for USAirways.....

chicago

now that we can go to chicago and dc nonstop
how about a nonstop flight to vegas?

That would be great

As long as you didn't have to give an arm and both legs for a ticket.

Haven't you guys figured this out yet?

In North Carolina, gambling is viewed as an evil vice that must be outlawed.....um....unless it's our fine lottery.

So those same guardians of moral virtue who stomped out that heinous video poker and Internet gaming will be ready to squash the idea of a direct flight to Vegas......OR Atlantic City, sinners!

I'm disappointed that we still haven't shut down that gambling boat those Satanic South Carolina people invented, where Peanut's daddy blows his prescription money.

Hmmmmmm......but if we could buy an old fishing boat and equip it for lottery sales, all those poor people I see out in Columbus and Bladen County buying ten ticket strips of scratch-offs from three or four rolls could enjoy a nice day at sea doing some good, healthy gambling!

US Airways has 5

US Airways has 5 non-stops/day between CLT-LAS and Southwest has 1 non-stop and 2 directs/day from RDU. Get your facts straight or keep your comments to yourself. Do you REALLY think that 100 people per day are going to travel from ILM-LAS. Why would any airline in there right mind schedule that service.

The state doesn't like competition

That is why the ABC system is government run (and broken) the lottery is state run. No video poker games that may cut into profits. Wilmington figured how to get a piece of the action by enacting a large tax per machine but then the state killed it. The state won't stand for competition when they can do as they please, take & spend as they please and ruin whatever they please.
