WPD: Man robbed at knifepoint downtown

THE FOLLOWING FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM:

Time: 12:46 a.m. – Tuesday morning
Location: 99 N. Water Street
Offense: Armed Robbery

Summary: The male victim, age 25, reported that he was in a bar drinking with a man he did not know by name.

According to the victim, the two agreed to go somewhere else to get a drink. The victim said he stopped to sit on one of the benches on Water Street when a third person (male voice) came up behind him and held a knife to his neck.

As this was happening, the victim’s companion from the bar took his wallet and cell phone. Then both assailants ran away. WPD officers responding to the scene were unable to locate the two robbers. The case is under investigation.

Had he been home in bed, sleeping, this wouldn't have happened.

Of course, you can't dismiss the "stupid beyond belief" factor either. (....he was in a bar drinking with a man he did not know by name.....According to the victim, the two agreed to go somewhere else to get a drink.)

This guy has never heard of Jeffrey Dahmer or John Wayne Gacy? He's lucky he didn't wind up in a stewpot or buried in a crawlspace.

It's always disheartening to hear stories like this, because in today's society a lot of people meet friends at a bar. This is also another reason we have to be more careful in the social activities at a bar. Say if he was with a friend, possibly the attacker would have been less likely to gang up on them in a pair. It's one of those unfortunate situations where you wish you would have "Had a buddy."
