WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- Beginning this week, the city is installing traffic medians in the Pine Valley area. The project is part of the city’s neighborhood traffic management program that works with neighborhood residents to identify both short and long-term solutions to help reduce speeding and improve safety.

The city has done similar projects in the Windemere, Creekwood South and Sunset Park neighborhoods. An initial study in Pine Valley was done in 2004 and updated in 2009. Medians that make the roads more narrow and cause traffic to slow down will be constructed at seven intersections. One lane at a time will be closed at affected intersections during construction, but no full road closures are expected. Work is expected to be completed by July. Traffic signs have been posted and fliers distributed door-to-door within the neighborhood.

Medians will be installed at the following intersections in the order shown below:

• Kelly Rd. & Sand Hill Dr.
• Kelly Rd. & N. Hampton Rd. (3-way intersection)
• Kelly Rd. & N. Hampton Rd. (4-way intersection)
• Amber Dr. & Wickford Rd.
• Waltmore Rd. & Wickford Rd.
• Brookshire Ln. & Nottingham Ln.
• Eagles Nest Dr. & Sparrow Hawk Ct.
