DOT looking for input on Skyway project

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The state Department of Transportation wants to know what you think about the the Cape Fear Skyway project.

The DOT is hosting a citizen's informational meeting at Belville Elementary School in Leland tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. It is an opportunity for you to voice any questions or concerns about the proposed bridge between Brunswick and New Hanover Counties.

The bridge has garnered mixed reactions from folks across the area. Some say the bridge would drastically improve traffic in and out of Wilmington.

"We need the third access to the southern part of Wilmington," David Pulley of Leland said. "It would make things a lot easier for people on that side of town, plus access from Leland also."

If you cannot make tonight's meeting, there is another Thursday in Wilmington. It is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Alderman Elementary school at 2025 Independence Blvd.

The workshops are open to the public, and anyone interested in finding out more about the project is encouraged to attend.

A bridge like this one should have been built years ago, like the missing overpass at Oleander & College, and everyday that goes by the cost goes up... move quickly to make up for lost time.

Yea, they want to know really bad.
That's why there was no question and answer period.
When questions were asked by individuals to the reps on a one on one basis, the standard answer was "We don't know".

If they can't give answers, they need to send someone that can.
Frankly it doesn't do any good to have these types of meetings where the standard answer is "i don't know".

Of course, this is a state endeavor. Like most other issues, the state can't or won't give out solid answers.

Maybe next time they hold a meeting, they could use a Ouija board.
Maybe a Psychic with tea leaves would do.
Wait, I've got it.

Honey, where did I put the magic 8 ball?

You have to remember, you are talking about the state DOT. They were being honest with you in stating, "We don't know...". They aren't playing possum, they're telling the truth this time!

If you question the DOT's ability, look at what they did to Monkey Junction. They put in u-turn points that nobody uses, while everybody U-turns where it is clearly prohibited. The accident rate in that area has increased dramatically. Then consider the new red light at Carolina Beach Rd and River Rd just before the Snows Cut bridge. That does ZERO good with accident prevention! The people coming from River Rd. should not be allowed to turn right on red and the left turn from CB Rd. to River Rd. should be directed by GREEN arrow only, NOT a flashing yellow arrow. People are still pulling out in front of others and turning left in front of others as much as ever (if not more)! Installing that light in with that operation sequence is similar to wearing a rain coat while you take a shower.

Now...it's like they told you, "We don't know..." Get it?
