Father, daughter shot after Fayetteville car crash

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) -- A man and his 7-year-old daughter have been hurt after an assailant jumped out of a car and began shooting following a crash on a main highway in Fayetteville.

Police say the collision happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family ran into a nearby fast food restaurant for help.

The man and his daughter were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and are expected to recover. A 4-year-old in the car was not hurt.

Witnesses said the victims appeared to have been hit by shotgun pellets.

Police said Wednesday morning they have a suspect in custody, but his name has not been released while the investigation continues.
